Currently, there is a widespread on the use of mobile phones in society and on school environment. In this scenario, the school and teachers work together to deal with students more and more connected. The objective of this research was to understand the reasons and consequences of the use of cell phones by students at school. The methodology used to develop this study was the Grounded Theory, by Glaser and Strauss (1967). Data were obtained through interactions on Twitter, online questionnaire and online interviews from students who were using the internet at school through a personal mobile device. The profile obtained from the 29 responses in the questionnaire was from students in elementary and secondary education, most of them from public schools in 13 different states, which all have a cell phone, often with internet connection from a prepaid plan. From the data collected it was noticed that there are laws and school regulations prohibiting the use of these devices in school, yet it is the teacher who sets the rules for the use inside the classrooms. Many teachers end up releasing the use after the end of an activity so the student can distract himself and not disturb others. Students tend to transgress the prohibitions and use their phones as they have free time at school or are bored with classes. Also, they want to communicate and get on social networks or even answer a doubt from the class with a quick internet consultation. As general consequences of this use, there are distraction of students, privacy issues as the spread of inappropriate content and cheating on tests. Within this context, it is indicated that the school understands the social and cultural issues relating to this custom of young people and sees this phenomenon as an opportunity to approach. The school can negotiate with students for the responsible use of these devices in this environment. As well as take advantage on internet communication to establish dialogues with these young people and work ethical issues regarding the use of technology. The intelligent use of technology at school can provide a more collaborative and engaging learning environment for students.Documento textualporAcesso abertoTécnicas de Ensino-AprendizagemTecnologia da Informação e da ComunicaçãoTecnologia e DidáticaTecnologia e EducaçãoO uso do aparelho celular dos estudantes na escolaDissertação120599
